'Ishikawadai' is a Japanese ring spinning machine manufactured by Ishikawa Seisakusho Co., Ltd. in 1953.
The manufacturer has no records, but it is thought to be the oldest spinning machine currently operating in Japan. Compared to the latest ring spinning machines, it can only spin at about one-third of the speed. Therefore, it is not very productive. However, because it puts less strain on the cotton, it takes advantage of the cotton's natural soft texture and creates an uneven texture that is like hand-spun cotton, with a unique natural look that cannot be reproduced by a computer.
The indigo dyeing of the warp threads does not damage the unique texture of this cotton - it omits the usual thread refining process, and is designed to create uneven indigo dyeing like vintage denim of past times. In order to reproduce this vintage style denim, all processes are intentionally carried out using low-tech methods. Products made from this denim will age and change over time as they are worn, and will breathe new life into the next generation of vintage wear.
This pair is made from 100% Texas cotton. Texas is the largest cotton-producing region in the United States, accounting for about half of the total cotton production in the United States. Most of the cotton is concentrated in the vast High Plains in the Northwest. Deep South cotton is produced in the Lower Rio Grande Valley, the southernmost part of Texas, bordering Mexico, far south of the High Plains. This region is a delta formed at the mouth of the Rio Grande River, which flows into the Gulf of Mexico.
The style: WWII Jeans. America in the 1940s.
In order to focus on supplies for World War II, jeans at this time had to be made with strict restrictions on parts that were deemed unnecessary and each part had to be simplified. In addition, veteran seamstresses focused on manufacturing military uniforms, while jeans were being manufactured by seamstresses with less skill. D'Artisan reproduces the awkward stitching and simplified details of the 1940s, and uses their original 13.0oz Texas cotton denim fabric spun in Ishikawadai.
After sewing, a beige colour is applied to the surface, expressing the rugged and rough denim fabric of the time.
